Pudu Prison Photos

This prison was built in 1895. More than a 100 years old now. It's not a prison anymore but a museum now. They built a bigger, better and sophisticated one somewhere in Sungai Buloh. Entrance fee and camera or video-cam fee must be paid before entering! When I first went there, not much visitors. I guess it was because it was on a week day. During this time, we were in KL for our honeymoon to Perth, Australia. We went to visit Pudu out of curiosity and Cindy's mother was quite negative about the visit as our wedding in Labuan is on 7 September 1997. As you know, "takut soi" they say. Anyway, we went ahead. It was quite an interesting experience.

The place is big with a separate women prison, which I did not manage to take any picture of, a workshop for the prisoner to learn skill, opened-air toilet and a huge canteen (can only remember this few spots at the moment).  The place is a bit eerie if I may say so myself. The moment we went into the lockup cell, we could feel cold (even though I was sweating like water was poured onto me) and the smell in the air was different. If any of you guys been there (been there like for a visit unless you have stayed there before!!!), then you would know what I meant.

The most nerve racking place in Pudu is the canning and hanging area. At the canning side, they showed a real video clip of a prisoner being canned for I think 10 strokes. After the canning, a doctor  administered the prisoner and this is when you get to see up closed the really bad torn flesh on the buttock. You could only see deep cut of flesh and no skin. This is the out come of a canning Rotan and you will noticed that the officer caring out the sentence knows his moves in canning. Cindy nearly vomited while still watching the video.

The next site is the hang area. Pictures are not allowed, unfortunately. This is scary man! The condemn cells are near by. You can see the hanging area clearly and then you sit down on a bench against the wall. What happen next is that they play an audio of what happens to a prisoner minutes before his execution. They made the audio in such a  way you feel that you are the one being executed. The hang rope is specially made with some sort of metal in it and it's from India. The life span of the rope is about 5 hangs  and  also depending on the body weight of the prisoner. They display a hang rope for you to have a feel and if you dare, you can even put it around your neck to try it on which no one dared in my group.

If you ever happened to be in Imbi or Pudu, drop by for a visit! Good experience!!!

Oooh yes, I almost forgot, at the end of the visit, you will be able to get a certificate certifying that you have visited Pudu Prison. The catch behind this, is that you have to pay for it.
